Lyrics

Hey Nelly, do you remember me,
The American girl from the 7th floor
I baked some muffins, just wanted to say hi
And see if you were doing alright
She cracks the door a little wider, squinting with suspicion
at my blurry face in the hall
She said, “I remember you, I thought you had blond hair,
Are you the one making all that noise up there?”

When I walk in high heel shoes across the floor of my room
She beats on the radiator with her broom and I think…

Chorus:
Yeah ….. I guess she’s doing alright 2x

Nelly used to teach piano, she says that she hears me when I play
Nelly used to live in England back when she was just about my age
Nelly’s lived here now for 90 years. She was born, had here children, lost her husband here
During the 2nd world war when sirens screamed for all to hide
She stood on the balcony, refused to go inside
Now like she did some 60 years ago, I see her on that balcony, refusing to go….and I think

Chorus

I’ve lived here in this building for the last four years, no one else even knows my name.
I’ve never seen her leaving, never heard her grieving, but sometimes when I sing a song
I hear her sing along
