I started writing songs when I was 8 years old. Since then, I've written hundreds of songs, but what I really love doing, is co-writing with others! Having worked as an Elementary School teacher for many years and having toured in Africa to write songs with youth, I love working with students to help them express their ideas and ambitions through song!
Description of Songpals Program:
In this program, I work with a group of youth to help them create a song together that will represent their feelings, thoughts, beliefs and ambitions in life. The group will create one song together and their song will be recorded, so they can listen to it over and over again.
1. Provide Recognition - (Occurs during the writing process) To give a voice to the particular group of students by allowing them an opportunity to share their stories, ideas, feelings, life goals, etc.
2. Increase Self-Confidence - (Occurs during writing, sharing and performing) To provide knowledge of songwriting and the opportunity to create music, share it and perform it for others. This can be an incredibly empowering experience.
Interested in having a Songpals program at your school or organization? I have worked with youth (Harlem Children's Zone, School of Hope), but also with adults (Servant's Anonymous Woman's Shelter) and private organizations (Classroom Champions, Little Flower Yoga).
I also offer co-writes with individuals. Take your favorite stories or shared memories and put them into a one of a kind gift that will never be forgotten. Let me help you create that special song! For details, Contact me!
"Writing songs with Celia for our children’s yoga program was such a joyful experience! The songs are beautiful, but the best part was the process. It was full of playfulness and laughter, along with some real inspiration. Celia is a talented musician who expertly draws out the creativity in others." Jennifer Cohen - founder of Little Flower Yoga
"We will really miss you here. I can’t thank you enough for the wonderful creative classes that you have facilitated, and the music that you have helped our Participants make. It has been incredibly meaningful to them, and SAS in general." Dixie - Servants Anonymous Society
“Working with the very talented Celia, I had great fun creating a meaningful song as a gift for my husband. An amazing experience which culminated in a beautiful, heartfelt, joyous song that my husband adored (there were tears) and something we will cherish forever. A fun, unique experience and the best gift ever! Thank you so much!” - Mandy Mackenzie
